Bethmia Psychiatric Services

A subsidiary of Bethmia Foundation; an organization formed to provide access to specialized psychiatric services for individuals and families in Chicago and its suburbs who either do not have access to mental health care or do not seek help because of the stigma associated with mental illnesses. Whether it’s a sudden onset of symptoms, an ongoing symptom, or the symptoms that have changed over time, the goal is to identify the psychiatric needs of every one of our patients and provide them the appropriate level of care to stabilize them and empower them to manage their conditions.

As an outpatient psychiatric service center, the vision was borne out of the founder’s (Mojisola Ayorinde) passion for those who either do not have access to mental health care or they do not seek help because of the stigma associated with mental illnesses. To her, seeking mental health care should equate seeking help for physical or medical condition. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. She, therefore, makes it her mission to seek out and help those in need of mental health care with the aim of letting them know that “it is ok to seek help.” Moreso, they do not have to suffer until their symptoms become uncontrollable to the point of being a threat to themselves or other people.

In the words of Jonathan Harnisch, “The strongest people are not those who show strength in front of us but those who win battles we know nothing about.” This is what an untreated psychiatric illness is; a mental health disorder that affects the core of who you are i.e. your identity, your personality, your mood, your behavior to the point of impeding your ability to accomplish anything to loosing interests in what you used to enjoy, and of course, being fearful of the future! Unknow to many people, mental health conditions increase the risks of physical conditions, and so it is the other way around.

At Bethmia, you do not need to suffer alone or feel helpless. We have dedicated staff who understand your conditions. They’re professionals who will treat you with respect, compassion, empathy, and dignity. They’re professionals who are willing and ready to connect you to the much-needed care that you deserve.

Remember, only you know what you are going through. Your mental health disorder is not visible to anyone else, but you who is the one experiencing it. Only you, therefore, know what you feel, what you hear, what you see, and know very well that your story is true. We at Bethmia believe you, we believe your story, and we will join you on your journey to recovery so you can write your story YOUR WAY!
